Color Management of the Printer
Color management has been correctly performed for a newly purchased printer, and it is adjusted to produce appropriate print results. However, due to a large amount of output or long periods of use, there may be substantial transition from the newly purchased state. In that case, calibrate the printer to make it closer to the newly purchased state. In addition, even when you are using a printer that cannot be calibrated, you can print in a way suitable for the current state by creating an ICC profile.
Note
- If you are using a printer that supports calibration, calibrate the printer before creating an ICC profile. Creating an ICC profile after reducing color variations in printing helps maintain output color consistency by simply performing color calibration even if misalignment occurs again.
Printer Calibration and ICC Profile Creation
Printer Calibration
This is the function for reducing changes in the color reproduction due to an environmental change or lapse of time, and for reducing differences in the color reproduction between one printer and another when using more than one printer. When you perform calibration with any of genuine Canon paper, it will be applied to the printer output on other paper as well.
- If you are using a PRO-1000 or PRO-500 series printer, we recommend that you use supported paper (Photo Paper Pro Platinum, Photo Paper Pro Luster, or Photo Paper Pro Premium Matte).
ICC Profile Creation
ICC profiles can be created individually for the paper to be used. As for the printer that has transitioned from the newly purchased state, you can make the print result closer to that originally intended by creating an ICC profile suitable for the printer's current state.

- The printer calibration method and ICC profile creation method depend on your product.
PRO-10S, PRO-100S, PRO-10, PRO-100, and PRO-1 v1-1 series printers:
Calibrate the printer and create an ICC profile using Color Management Tool Pro.
About Color Management Tool Pro
Color Management Tool Pro is a Canon application that offers a printer calibration function and ICC profile creation function.
Although ICC profiles can be created in applications supplied with measuring instruments, you can create ICC profiles more suitable for your Canon printer using Color Management Tool Pro.

- Color Management Tool Pro can be downloaded from the Canon website.
- To use Color Management Tool Pro, a commercial measuring instrument is required. See Help of Color Management Tool Pro for supported measuring instruments.
Printer Calibration Function
For some Canon printers, printer calibration can be performed by using Color Management Tool Pro. The flow of printer calibration is as follows.

Print a chart.
Specify print settings according to the printer and paper to be used, then print a chart.

Calibrate the measuring instrument.
Prepare a measuring instrument.

Enter print settings.
Enter the print settings described in the printed chart.

Measure the chart.

Calibrate the printer.
Calibrate the printer based on the measured data.
ICC Profile Creation Function
In Color Management Tool Pro, users can create custom printer ICC profiles. The flow of ICC profile creation is as follows.

Print a chart.
Specify print settings according to the printer and paper to be used, then print a chart.

Calibrate the measuring instrument.
Prepare a measuring instrument.

Enter print settings.
Enter the print settings described in the printed chart.

Measure the chart.

Create an ICC profile.
Create an ICC profile from the measured data.

Other printers:
Perform calibration on the printer. The calibration results depend on the paper.
If you perform calibration with the following supported paper, the result will be applied to the output on other paper used on the printer as well. If you perform calibration with paper other than the supported paper, the result will be applied only to the paper used for calibration.
